Offering expert dyslexia assessments and tailored tuition to help individuals with dyslexia thrive.
I started this journey as a parent, just like you—searching for answers, support, and a way forward. When our daughter began struggling in primary school, we didn’t know why she was falling behind despite her efforts. In Year 5, she was diagnosed with dyslexia, and everything changed. With the right support, she began to grow in confidence and thrive. My husband is also dyslexic, so we’ve seen both the challenges and the unique strengths dyslexia can bring.
Alongside my personal experience, I am a qualified teacher with over 19 years of experience, and I currently work as a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) in a local school, supporting children with a wide range of learning needs every day. In 2024, I decided to take my passion for supporting those with dyslexia further and began to train as a specialist teacher and assessor for dyslexia. I now offer personalised tuition, informal screenings, and formal diagnostic assessments to help other families access the support their children need—just as we once did for our own.
I offer a range of supportive services tailored to children with dyslexia and other learning differences. My regular tuition sessions are delivered with a personalised approach, drawing on my extensive experience as a qualified specialist teacher and my background in special educational needs (SEND). For families looking to better understand their child’s learning profile, I provide informal dyslexia screenings with practical recommendations for both home and school. I also carry out full, formal dyslexia assessments for children, following current professional standards. These assessments offer clear insights, a detailed written report, and guidance on the next steps to ensure your child receives the support they need to thrive.

Specific learning difficulties (SpLDs) is an umbrella term used to cover a variety of difficulties which can range in their severity. Dyslexia is the most commonly known difficulty. It affects both written and spoken language. It occurs due to difficulty with information processing particularly sounds in spoken words, visual and auditory perceptual skills as well as working memory. The main specific learning difficulties include:
Emily Hale Dyslexia Services works with children from age 4 to 11 for tuition and can assess individuals from age 8 to 16 years.
I offer both informal dyslexia screenings and full formal assessments, depending on your child’s needs. A screening is a shorter, informal process that helps identify possible signs of dyslexia. While it doesn’t provide a diagnosis, it offers valuable insights into your child’s learning profile, along with practical recommendations for support at home and school. A formal assessment, on the other hand, is a detailed, diagnostic evaluation. It explores areas such as memory, processing speed, reading, and writing, and results in a comprehensive written report. This can confirm whether your child has dyslexia and includes clear guidance for next steps, including school support and exam access arrangements if needed.
If your child is struggling with reading, writing, spelling, or retaining information, it can be difficult to know whether tuition alone is enough or if a full assessment is needed. I offer an initial informal screening which can help identify whether there are indicators of dyslexia. From there, I can recommend the best next steps—whether it’s targeted tuition, further monitoring, or a formal diagnostic assessment. Every child is different, and I’m here to help you make the right choice based on your child’s individual needs.
